Great question - I think it's because life provides us with so many distractions that our minds get used to always being "on". It takes practice and a lot of hard work to de-train from that mental state and just be in the moment (certainly for me). But I tell ya... when I do have those fleeting periods of time when everything is just flowing? There are few better feelings.

My toughest personal goal is living in the moment. Why is it so hard to take a walk and for 60 minutes NOT think about what you need to do tomorrow, next week, next year ? Why is it so hard to focus on the HERE and NOW ?

If nothing else, it's good to know these serve as a reminder for someone else besides me. Mindfulness is severely underrated.

who needs peer-reviews when you've got experience on your side, right? i too find myself less stressed, more happy, etc when i'm living life to my values and my passion as well. sometimes it takes conscious reminding to do so and to make smart choices that will make me happier in the long run, and reminders like these kinds of posts always help! thanks!

Yeah, the idea of getting all made up to sit on a plane feels crazy to me. Then again, no one is waiting around at the airport to take a few hundred photos of me... which is puzzling. I am really handsome (or at least my Mom tells me).

I think it's pretty natural/normal to spend the most time with those you have shared interests, views and values with. Can you imagine I'd you spent all of it with people 100% different or who just conflicted with your every thought? Ugh to that.

But it is pretty refreshing and freeing to step out of the same-old, same-old on occasion to liven things up. Glad I helped kick things in gear for you this morning!

this is a cool post kevin with some thoughts that have got my brain gears rolling on this friday morning, something i needed! i do tend to hang more with people with my same interests and views, especially as of late since i've met so many fellow foodies and fitness fanatics through my blog. but i am grateful for the friends i've had since high school that may live different lifestyles and live by different cultures, but since we have such long-lasting close friendships, we remain friends and still hang out. sometimes being with those people feels the most refreshing and freeing for my mind. i also learn so much from them!

Thanks, Will. As I was writing this, I was thinking about how I wanted it to be that more productive sense of "anger"... which I think is really just a form of burning desire. That sense that you look around, aren't satisfied, but also have the passion to make the change to make it better. Some people are dissatisfied and just slip into some kind of dark rage and become bitter because they don't actually take the action to change. That's just... well... ugh. But kudos for you to get it to push you!

Nice one man. Points for the Star Wars reference at the end. Been dealing with that "anger" for the past year, but actually using it to progress in life.
